Antique Palais Royal Mother of Pearl Tambour Crochet Hook
French * Circa 1820
This antique tambour hook is carved of mother of pearl and
was once part of a set of Palais Royal tools
. It has a gilded collar and a steel thumb screw. This screws in properly and all the way. Two tiny steel hooks are stored under the screw off top but their shanks aren't thin enough for the thumb screw to secure them.
The condition of the mother of pearl is excellent with no chips or cracks and the top and hook cover screw on perfectly. It has great luminescence and measures almost 5" long closed. One is shown in its workbox on pp. 18 & 24 of Gay Ann Rogers'
