    Description

Here is a vintage quilt top in the Necktie pattern, #2533 as shown in the Encyclopedia of Pieced Quilt Patterns by Barbara Bachman.  This is categorized as a Square In A Square with specific construction.  Pattern is so named by the Ladies' Art Company, #119 and the Kansas City Star from 1951.  Design is also known as the Colonial Bow Tie.
Top is hand stitched and contains 90 blocks comprised of four smaller neckties for a total of 360!   Each individual bow tie block is approximately 4 1/4" - 4 1/2" square.  The majority of the blocks contain four bow ties of the same fabric, but a few are mixed.  Measurement for the entire top is approximately 74" x 84".
Fabrics are from a time span generally the 1930s and 1940s with small print florals and geometrics.   Top is generally clean, although there are some areas containing brown storage soiling.  Item does not need any repair.
Top does not include any backing fabric, binding or batting for the top.
When working with vintage fabric, blocks, tops or quilts, prior quilting and piecing experience is helpful. Pieces were not rotary cut and cutting templates and patterns may not have been square. Pieced items may not be flat. Vintage items may have a musty or storage odor.
