    Description

    This quilt top is jumping with color and variety of fabrics.  The fabrics include wovens, shirtings, possibly some feedsack, as well as prints from the 1930s and probably earlier--the somber browns and indigos for example. The center cream squares are a tightly woven feedsack material, and if I were going to finish this top I would surround all of these ocean waves with a similar creamy muslin so that they dance in the center.  This is entirely hand-pieced, and the tiny half-square triangles measure approximately 1 and 1/2" square. I have not searched the quilt for stains or other small imperfections, and don't know if all of the seams are tight and secure.  As with any vintage quilt top you will want to inspect it closely if you wish to finish it.  I can say that the corners and points match fairly consistently, but the quilt may not lie completely flat if you stretch it out on a frame.  I bought this top many many  years ago from a Pennsylvania dealer on ebay, so that is probably its place of origin.
